I got sir'ed!

I know this isn't a big deal to some of you, and I know it happens all the time to some people, but for me it's a big deal.

The first time (that I know of, I guess) was in Chinese restaurant with my parents, brother and sister-in-law, and the waitress gave me my food with a "Here you are, sir" or something like that. I can't be sure at what point she realized her mistake, or even whether she did.

This time, I was walking out of Gingko Gallery from a kitten therapy session with Josh and Sierra, and I was holding the door for a guy with stubble and a trucker cap and his eight or nine year old daughter. My face was turned away, and as he took the door from me he said, very courteously, "Thank you, sir" in that charismatic way that my friends might use that isn't actually ironic, just silly. As my brain was busy processing what had happened, I turned around to look at him and he said, very sweetly, "...Ma'am. Pardon me!" He was only surprised, not perturbed or unpleasantly confused.

It was awesome.
