Everyman, Day 1

Dec 22, 2007 07:36

Day 1 went pretty well, all things considered! My naps went fairly smoothly, though (a) I'm still figuring out how and where to take them when I'm at work, and (b) I think the extra sleep I got the previous night made it more difficult to fall asleep quickly. I actually worked later than I intended, so when I met Mom and Dad for dinner upon leaving work, it was already about 19:30 and (though my body certainly isn't adjusted to the schedule or anything yet) I was fading fairly quickly. I got home around a quarter to 21 and took my evening nap then, though the combination of I just ate along with I just finished driving made it very difficult to fall asleep. I only probably actually slept for about 5-10 minutes of the 20 or so. That made me pretty much useless for the rest of the evening, so I didn't do anything interesting... I can't remember exactly what I did, though I know video games (playing through Metroid Fusion again) took up the last bit until 1:30, when I was more than ready to go to sleep.

Oh, but! _phinn_ called me as I was sitting down to dinner, so I called her back on the drive home from the restaurant... it turns out she actually adopted the same sleep schedule I'm starting now for about a year or so, I think? And she concurs with my theory that going into the adjustment period already suffering from sleep dep makes the adjustment a lot less harsh, since you're more used to it.

Last night's core sleep went exactly on schedule, 1:30 to 4:30. I switched my alarm tone to "Holding Out for a Hero" by Frou Frou, which definitely helped the wakeup process. I think I have a good routine for getting myself out of bed, though it will require that I maintain a supply of granny smith apples in our fridge. An apple a day keeps the snooze demons away?

Since I'm not adjusted yet, it means that I'll be waking up, especially from core sleep, really groggy. So no mentally-intensive tasks to start out with. Nonetheless, since waking up, I've done the following, in (approximately) chronological order:
  • Eaten an apple
  • Taken a shower
  • Read all my webcomics, started a new one, and checked LJ and email
  • Made and eaten an actual breakfast (though I had to discard a bit of it, it didn't taste quite right)
  • Gotten dressed
  • Taken an excessively long walk and eaten an orange
  • Came up with and applied the fix to a weird server issue I'd been seeing
  • Made a blog post
And it's only 8:00. A girl could seriously get used to having this much time on her hands. Let's see how it goes from here on out!
