Obligatory Car Trouble Day or OCTD

Aug 16, 2005 20:44

For the last few days we have had a little trouble starting the car up, so I just thought we were leaving the lights on or something. Today was a pain. Out at 3:30, just want to go home and relax. Car won't start. Huh? Hmm, nope, won't start. Ask fellow airman if they can give a charge. Five minutes of trying, no dime. Urgh. Call AAA. Yay, help coming. Tell gate guards help is coming. Um, no, have to go through different gate. Gate is 5 minutes drive away, but with no car, 10+ run. Urgh. Call friend with car, no answer. Call other friend, she's off post, sends her apologies. Decide to run down. No, wait. Run over to another airman and ask for lift to Bolio gate. Yes, got ride. Now I wait for half hour, AAA guy comes. Shoot! Has to get car inspected and them signed in. 10 minutes later we go up to my car. You hooks us up and car starts. Hmm, why woundn't it start earlier with hook up from other car. Oh well. Was told to have car on for at least half hour to charge car. Took half hour to drive to commissary to get groceries. Turned off car then immediately turned on to make sure. Car won't start. WHAT! Bugger! Call friend who lives near. No dice. Grrr. Call AAA again. Bad connection, got cut off when talking. Grrr. Call again, cut off before talking. Grrr. Called by AAA, couldn't speak because of connection issues, was cut off. AARRRRGGGHHH! Called back, confirmed. Oi. Guy comes to replace battery about 20 mins later. Checks battery. Yep. Dead. Gets new battery. Um, something is not right. The connections for the new battery are on the other side and won't reach. Calming self. Oh, lets see if this works. He gets out a battery slightly smaller. It works. I repeat, IT WORKS! Chorus sings in my head. I don't dance in front of car guy. 7pm, finally home. Oi oi oi oi oi.

In other news it looks like my wife isn't leaving next week like we thought and might be staying another month with me. Happy feelings all around.
