I have no idea if I'm going to be able to keep this up, but here's to the start of a more regular style of posting from me. They won't always be long posts, but there you go. I may also make some posts for dates long gone as nice things have happened in the last year or so that I've barely mentioned, if at all -- even if I had fully intended to at the time, *things* just get in the way sometimes and before you know it a month has flown by and by then it just doesn't seem as vivid or relevant to anything but posterity.
Speaking of which, I recently found my diaries back to 1991... talk about a mindfuck. I'm not sure what's more depressing: that I could remember every day and all the people that I was reading about, or that some of the themes haven't changed in 16 years. Oh, and that I was a raging pervert-in-training, but how is that news to anyone that knows me? :P
At the moment, however, virtually all my brainspace is occupied with the twofold task of packing up my flat into as few dinky boxes as possible, and finding a new job/flat/city to go to with said boxes in tow... I've moved too many times, and each time is more depressing as the years tick by and I can't ever say I've had a home I've lived in for more than three years -- in fact, I've been in this flat for 2.5 years and it barely seems like it, and now I'm moving on again!
It seems that, currently, jobs are hard to come by, mainly because I've been slack in the last year and not taught myself .NET (a programming language which, it seems, is all people want now) so while there are literally hundreds of .net jobs listed on the various job sites, there are only the tiniest handful that are based around classic ASP and include some on-the-job training into .net -- well, it is my own fault, but I'm trying to rectify that now as a step towards a better suite of opportunities in 18 months' time or so. And then the location has to be right. Ideally I'm looking for work anywhere in Cambridgeshire / Northamptonshire. It's just unfortunate that the really interesting and well-paid jobs are all in London or Surrey and, while they're well-paid, they ain't well-paid enough for a single guy to live on his own in a nice flat or house somewhere without having to hock his soul to the devil to pay for it all. So for now, as much as I might like to live and work nearer the Big Smoke, I have to set my sights lower. For now. My time will come, oh yes...
