Happiness is...home

Home is such a flexible term. I was back in Chiacgoland this weekend for Jack & Sam's baby shower and visiting with friends. Missed a doctor's appointment and a photography class for it, since I scheduled my trip badly (and I had plum forgotten about the doctor's appt).

I got to see Meg, Sue and Toni, my cousin Kat, Jack & Sam, toodle around my old stomping grounds, play with a baby, and push my cultural boundaries. It was a good weekend.

I came in Friday night and talked politics with Kat, who also gave me a corset that I forgot to pack. We chatted on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon I hung out with my Glenview friends. It was a good old girl-talk session. Went straight from Meg's to the Blues Bar, just around the corner, with a Blues Brothers theme, for Jason's birthday. Didn't stay late, was back to Meg's quick. Sunday was the 6-hour baby shower party, with great Indian food. I felt odd, Mom and I were the only ones not in saris. And we don't speak Urdu, so it was weird not knowing which language to speak. But Sam's family and friends were nice and talked to us, I won a candle holder due to my splendid vocabulary skills.

Peter had dropped off a bottle of German wine with Jack & Sam, which they forgot to bring to the aprty, so I trekked back to Wadsworth with them. Got to see the clean and renovated house, which Sam has done a great job of updating. Really pretty glass tiles and marble countertops. A little over the top, maybe, but looked great.

Today I slept, read and hung out with Toni and her baby. She's got the sweetest-tempered baby I've ever seen! Considering I've seen maybe three babies for extended periods of time, that's not saying much.

I have the day off tomorrow, but then have two intensive days of work, need to check a camera out from school since my work one got stolen, but I'll get it all organized somehow. I have friends in from California, so I'm trying to get dinner organized for us for tomorrow.

And the upcoming weekend, I have a surprise birthday party, a ballroom dance and a campout. No rest for the wicked....

baby shower, wine, babies, weekend
