Basic Life Situation

This is my first journal entry. It's a little intimidating, really. Anyway, I am writing instead of studying between classes. I have sculpture next. We will be creating sprue systems for our sculptures. The figures we are creating are made of wax, but we will create a mold using the lost wax process and cast the sculptures in aluminum. I am happy with the way my figure is turning out. I chose to sculpt one of my friends who is pregnant. The figure is only about four inches tall, but since my subject was sitting, the dimensions of the figure are larger than those of the figures who are portrayed standing. The position is that of someone sitting who is about to get up, so there is implied motion.
As far as my other art classes go, I have not had enough time in my day to sit and brainstorm where I want to go with my work. I wish I had more time to concentrate on my printmaking class, seeing as how printmaking is what I want to pursue in graduate school. I am enjoying the class, but I have not been able to devote as much time to it as I would like. Painting is a lost cause. My professor only allows us to work in acrylic, which is fine if that's what you like, but I need to explore different media as well. I like the man as a human being, but the paintings his students turn out all end up looking the same with some variations in technical skill. I'm thinking about transferring to a place with a better program with professors who would expect more from their students. We'll see what happens.
Well, off to sculpture!
