[Background]
Yogi’s background is shrouded in mystery! Lieutenant on Circus’s Second Ship under Hirato, the man appears to have had been there for quite some time, although it’s unclear why he joined Circus and how that came to be. It is known that he has a little sister somewhere, although she doesn’t seem to be part of Circus, and as a performer, Yogi was always usually Nyanperona, the guy in the great big catsuit. Good thing he loves children, right?
But he first meets our intrepid …duo after they accidentally ran into a Circus performance. He ended up chasing off a pair of Kafka agents who’d tried to capture Nai, and brought them aboard the ship. Almost immediately, Yogi was assigned to watch Gareki and Nai and keep them protected, a task he took too with his natural enthusiasm. Sadly for him, both of the pair were, well, trouble magnets. Even a game of hide and seek ended up with Nai nearly getting his eyes torn out by a post-human, and Gareki was…less than receptive of Yogi’s affection and friendship.
But so it went. Yogi was sent to the Research Tower with Nai and Gareki after Nai collapsed from Karoku’s interference. For the most part, the Tower itself proved uneventful, and Yogi spent most of the examination hiding from Doctor Akari. But then they were sent on an expedition to Niji Forest, and shit got real. They had been looking for clues to Karoku’s personality, and found the home Nai had lived in burnt. The cave he lead them to afterwards was devoid of most things, save for a dilapidated copy of Karoku’s journal. And then! Gareki was targeted and attacked by monsters called Leichnam Macht. Yogi had assumed them to be coming after Nai, but no. After chasing after the Leichnam Macht. and Gareki, the pair were saved by Eva, another Circus member. They were then sent to Karasuna as bait for suspected post-humans.
Those post-humans turned out to be Gareki’s childhood friends, Tsubame and Yotaka. Yotaka had been turned into a post-human by one of Kafka’s scientists, and while Yogi instructed Gareki and Nai to run before they were killed by the boy, he himself hesitated in fighting them, resulting in him being severely injured. It did not seem to slow him down too much, as he got back up in time to try and protect Gareki from the scientist as Yotaka started to lose what was left of his mind. As it turned out, Hirato killed the boy, and things were left just a little bit…strained in the aftermath. And a week later, the lot of them were sent out again, this time to investigate a villa up north.
During the investigation, the robotic snowman Yukkin was captured, and a hunt was made to find it. Yogi, Gareki and Nai went down a hole to find it, and found instead an underground complex. Not long after, they were ambushed by the Valga who’d captured Yukkin, and they got in a massive fight, with Tsukumo and Nai getting separated from Yogi and Gareki. During the fight, Yogi came to the internal conclusion that Gareki must hate him for failing to help Yotaka, and later on, when he was blinded by one of the Valga, his medicine patch on his cheek fell off. He then went berserk, his hair turning silver and his personality doing a 180 into a psychotic, bloodthirsty manchild, easily driving away the Valga…and nearly turning on Gareki, as well. To his own surprise, he protected the boy from his own attack, and pondered why, being unable to recognize him. Gareki employed his headbutt of Tsun ™ and snapped Yogi out of his personality switch, but the man passed out shortly afterwards, although whether from his injuries or the berserker rage, it’s hard to say. He, Nai, and Gareki were emergency airlifted back to the research tower for treatement.
When he finally awoke, he was in Somarium.
[Personality]
Yogi, to put it simply, is one sparkly son of a bitch. The man is extremely friendly, and enthusiastic in said friendliness. Chances are, if he meets you, he likes you. That’s not to say he never disapproves of anyone-oh no. If you’re mean, he’ll point it out in a rather childlike fashion, if you annoy him, he’ll be clear on it. He’s most easily annoyed by insistence on rank and superiority, or by. Well. Hirato. Really, Yogi is a very childlike sort of person-loud and flamboyant, scared of his doctor, and loves sweets.
Despite being one of Second Ship’s fighters, Yogi really dislikes fighting, and he’s a kind soul. He views his work for circus as releasing those tampered with by the Valga, but at heart, he does very much wish there was a way to save them, instead of killing them. It sometimes makes him hesitate, especially in cases where the post-human had no choice in their change.
Despite Yogi’s childishness, at heart he’s very sensitive, if sometimes oblivious to the moods and feelings of others (read, Gareki). He feels hurt easily if he perceives himself to be hated, but on that measure, he would never say anything. Yogi can also be very serious when it comes down to protecting someone or a fight-it’s the only time he actually seems to act 21. …Of course, this is balanced out by the introduction he gives every time at the beginning of battle.
“Brimming with youthful energy, the heart-throbbing prince, Second Ship’s Fighter Yogi will be your opponent!”
In truth? Hirato wrote it for him.
For performances, Yogi is Nyan-pero-na, a giant catlike…thing. He’s very very good with children as a result of it, but he sometimes worries if it’s appropriate for a fighter.
[Specialties/Abilities]
As a member of Circus, Yogi appears to be able to pull astounding physical feats. He can jump amazing distances, his strength appears to be somewhat more than normal, and he appears to recover from injuries very quickly. This seems to be a standard for fighter-class Circus members.
Yogi is shown to be extremely athletic otherwise, but his main ability lies in his weapon, a pair of twin thorn rapiers called Durnkiste. It can turn into a veritable forest of superstrong thorn branches-strong enough to shield people from an explosion, at the very least. Mostly, Yogi uses them as rapiers, and he’s quite skilled with them. They appear to show up only when he needs them, so he’s not constantly carrying around swords.
He’s also a natural performer. :| He rivals Teddie in sparkles.
[Affection]Yogi is extremely affectionate! Hugs, snuggles, holding hands, games...Yogi's pretty much good for anything. More romantic affections might fluster him a little bit, but he'll roll with it and move right along.
Expect many, many sparkles. :|
[Fighting] Once again, fighting is cool, but discuss it with me before maiming/killing. Yogi's an extremely good fighter, and then there's that berserker rage thing, but he doesn't actually like fighting much. :c
[Other Permissions] Go on, read his mind. :| Nothin' but candy, sparkles, and taking care of people in there.
Really, though, just hit me up before anthing major. |D;
[Other Facts] Dana is a goddamn enabler.
Yogi’s medicine patch is for an ‘allergy’. This ‘allergy’ is triggered by something unspecified about the Valga, and can also be exacerbated and possibly triggered by high emotional stress and physical strain. As of arriving to Somarium, I am decreeing he has been given a new patch, although given the nature of the place, he won’t need to find more for a while. Maybe. ♥
