Celebrating Together

Kathleen Tudor Cassin stared at the beautiful planet below her, but as much as she wanted to, she could barely focus on the strangely colored globe. “What makes the water red?” she asked, trying to bring her attention to the ruby seas.
“There’s an organism that lives in the water. It’s photosynthetic; isn’t it gorgeous?” Kirsa asked. Her eyes were glued to the view. “I wish I could take you down there, but you need all kinds of special permits to land on a preserve-world. Anyway, we should get some rest before we jump again.”
“I feel fine,” Cassin grumbled. She stood up anyway and moved toward the rear of the craft, and Kirsa watched sadly as Cassin went into her own cabin instead of waiting for an invitation to Kirsa’s bed.
