Kakashi noted Sakura with one lazy eye as he lay back against the truck of a tree outside the main gate about 40 feet in the air. She seemed upset. Probably because she was early. Or hot. Or she was remembering some ill advised comment Sai or Naruto had made. Or Tsunade-sama was hassling her. ...Or perhaps because no one else had shown up yet.

Well, there was no point showing himself until they had all gathered. He had a reputation to maintain after all. And he was just a few more pages away from finishing the chapter...

Sai walked with a brisk pace and gave a great yawn. While he felt that he should never be late for a mission, he should never be too early either, early people waste a lot of energy to get to their destinations fast and then waste more time at the destination waiting. He reaches his hands up above his head and stretched himself out, feeling the tension from all the training he had done the day before as he let out a "ugh" while he stretched and squinted his face.

He saw up ahead the glint of something pink, and knew that it could only be the annoying hairdo of his teammate Sakura. As he walked towards the gate toward his soon to most likely be impending doom of a few punches in the face from a fairly violent girl. Be that as it may, he still intends on trying to be her friend, even tough he feels that the books he is reading are beginning to fail him more each time.

He finally reaches Sakura, he squints his eyes in the sunlight and gives a fake smile and says "Good morning."

Sakura's face looked like it was about to explode in fury when she turned to face her raven-haired teammate, but decided against it, no matter how irritated she was that morning. She was dismayed by his persistence in the library, getting on her last nerve. Sure he "lacked emotion" but there was no need to push a subject as far as he did. It was as if he always wanted in the last word. She didn't hate him, but she was certainly close.

Not wanting to completely snob him and get baited into his trap of jerkish deceit, she barely waved at him, simply acknowledging he was there. The aura around her was rather dark and heavy though, hopefully sending vibes to her teammate that she really didn't want to hear anything from him at the moment. If he should say anything, anyone could point out that it should be an apology. It was what she wanted, but knew she was never going to get.

Tired and bored she slumped against a tree, relaxing herself before Kakashi and Naruto came. If they ever came.

"Sakura-chaaaaaan~!" Naruto ran up, waving with one hand as he smiled and skidded to a stop not far from his pink haired teammate.

"Hey, I got you a present!" He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small purple bag and holding it out. "For my favourite kunoichi~! They didn't have very many left, but I got all the ones that were left."

He rocked on his heels, watching Sakura, and occasionally glaring at Sai out of the corner of his eye. "I got here as soon as I could. Is it true we're finally getting a mission!?"

Sakura blushed, reaching for the bag, her eyes glistening with moisture. Even after two and a half years Naruto still cared for her, enough to get her a birthday present. Heck...he remembered her birthday!

Upon being called Naruto's 'favorite kunoichi,' Sakura had to blush deeper, not knowing why her face was reacting this way to Naruto of all people. Maybe because no one really paid any attention to her birthday the past two years, Sakura couldn't help but be overwhelmed by emotion. "Thank you, Naruto-kun." Giving him a quick hug she pulled back and nodded in response to his question, "Yep! As soon as Sensei gets here we can go." But whenever that is, I have no clue, she thought to herself.

Hoping Sakura would open the bag Naruto gave her, Kakashi waited a moment longer, but his chapter was finished, the team was assembled, and reputation or not, the earlier a start they got the better.

Translocating to the ground from his perch in the tree, smoke included to convince them he had come from somewhere much farther away, he smiled and waved. "Good morning."

Getting straight to business, which might throw them off even more, he added seriously, "You know why we're here and what we're doing. It's a wide ranging scouting mission for Akatsuki, rumors of Akatsuki, anyone resembling or smelling ike Akatsuki... well, you get the point."

"We have word they're too close for our comfort, and," here he looked at Naruto and Sakura, "You know what danger they pose." Including Sai in his glance, he added, "No one will ever be alone while scouting. covering more ground is not worth it if we lose a team member. Our two-man teams will shift and change as necessary to the situations we may find ( ... )

Sakura was slightly surprised when Kakashi jumped down from the tree. Not like he never did that before, it was just not three hours late. Her eyes widened and her mouth hung open, "S-sensei. Y-you're..." she pointed at his face, the stupid expression still lingering on hers, "not late?"

Deciding that wasn't important, for once. She waved her hand, dismissing her last comment, "So what are the teams, Sensei?" Taking a glance between Naruto and Sai, her eyes lingered on Sai's longer, a growl unconsciously emitting itself from her throat. Oh, please. God, NO! Inner Sakura began ripping her inverted-in-color hair, smashing her head against the ground, screaming bloody murder if Kakashi even so much as thought of pairing her with Sai. Then again, it wouldn't be fair to any other member in her team either. Sighing, she would just have to deal with it when the time came.

She hugged me!! Naruto's grin stretched even wider, spacing out with a happy glaze in his eyes.

"Huh? Kakashi-sensei? When did you get here?"

She hugged me! He gave Sakura another doofy smile.
