Buffalo Road Trip

Wow, what a weekend.

This may have been the busiest weekend of my life. On Friday Mark, Rachel, and I crashed the worst-bible study I'd ever been to. It was just a bunch of people sitting around in a circle trying to find ways justifying how God would make them rich for being Christians. Literally. They spent twenty minutes trying to find scriptures that would prove their point and show that God makes good Christians wealthy. Mark and I kept bringing up all of these simple truths and demonstrations of God's disdain for the wealthy and Jesus' love for the poor and the simple. The Beatitudes. The parable of the widow with 2 coins. Solomon's conclusions in Ecclesiastes. The transcendental community. On and on, we tried to show how it was clear that Jesus loved the poor and that wealth - beyond what satisfies our needs and provides some comfort - should go to the good of the people, but they didn't get it. The sensation was like being a non-smoker in a room full of people puffing on cigars. We almost left in the middle.

Dad got me up early on Saturday morning to go for our first organized bike ride (sponsored by a cycling club in Onondaga). We did 9.3 miles which was considered the "leisure ride" by many of the older people. A bunch of 60 year olds did the 30 mile ride. But it was still a lot of fun. Then I went on a road trip to Buffalo with Jeremy and Simeon. I don't think Live Journal will let me post pictures on my free account, but check them out at Facebook. I have this great video of Jeremy driving the car from the passenger seat so Simeon could eat fries. We had a really good time. I got to meet a lot of Jeremy's old friends, and I filled a year-long craving for Mighty Taco. But the best part was when we went to visit Steve and the guys. For the first time my good friends in Syracuse got to meet my good friends in Buffalo. It was a little window of what it might be like if I can swing things right in the future. I need to do things in such a way as to remain close to everyone I care about. I also learned that Jeremy is hoping to go back to Buffalo too, which would be great if we could get a place out there. Oh! Also I re-met Greg who I hadn't seen in about four years. He showed me some incredible guitars - including one he had made himself - and also some awesome guitar playing (search for Andy McKee or Candyrat on youtube.com).

When I came back I was so exhausted that I called in to work on Monday; there was just no way I could go to work. I feel a bit more rested now and I'm really looking forward to going to NYC to check out that museum exhibit. Jeremy, Simeon, and Crystal all want to go, and I hope it works out so that we all can go and that we have a great time. I haven't been to NYC in ages.

Dan
