Wherein good deeds get rewarded
After I donated several copies of Clarence to Cincinnati Children's Hospital a while back, I have been looking to continue that vein by donating copies to other organizations that help children. This is one way I can feel like I'm making a small difference with the limited free time I have available currently. And it's also a way for me to fulfill my mission of helping children while I'm waiting to become a pediatric surgeon.
So I sent emails to both children's homes in my area to find out if they had children in the age group that would appreciate Clarence (about 0-6 years old). Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, there are very few children in that age group in the children's homes. However, I sent a copy to the Diocesan Children's Home up the road from me so that it could be used in their school library. I figured that if it even gets read once, it's worth the effort. Clarence has such a great message for children in this situation because perseverance and family are strong threads throughout the story.
Then, today, I received the letter below from the children's home. It's nice that a donation caused a sale, but what's even nicer is that the school he mentions is the one my mother went to as a child. It's neat how events come full circle sometimes.
