Well, there wasn't any in Nine Years Later (Regency AU) because there wasn't much, practically speaking, and he did make sure they were getting married first. :) Other than that, I try at least to mention the chemical stuff that I assume everyone in Starfleet has access to. Can't speak for other authors.

I know you almost always make some sort of mention of it, which I appreciate so much. ♥

I try to just hand-wave that this is the future and everyone is protected against pregnancy and disease, but with het it almost always draws me right out of the fic. (The perils of reading the type of sex one has oneself, I suppose. *g*)

No, I understand! And remembering that some people have issues with reading about unprotected het sex reminds me that I really should mention birth control for the good of the world in general.

So I was saving this as a reward for finishing something I haven't yet finished, so nevermind that. But it kept teasing me from the corner of my browser so I decided to let myself read it anyway, and am I glad I did. It's just so wonderfully, refreshingly grown-up, and Noel sounds delicious from McCoy's POV. (Plus, flirting with Jim to piss him off is *sheer genius*.)
