The QE II leaves Black Falcon Pier in Boston for the last time.
The Queen Elizabeth II has been berthed at the Black Falcon Pier all day today, just down from my office. (I've got three giant cruise ships out back, and a Navy battleship in drydock out front. I rule!) Cunard has sold her, and she'll be making her way to Dubai where she'll come to rest as a floating hotel.
My lame picture gives you no idea of her size (gigantic), or the sound of her horn (tremendous, building-shaking).
According to the Boston Globe, she was launched in 1967 and has traveled 5.6 million (!) nautical miles: the equivalent of going to the moon and back thirteen times!
Fare well, you grand old lady. Stay classy!
