I hate to say this and I'm going to seem like the biggest bitch but I work in an ER vet clinic. I am a receptionist and I get the fun job of telling people that we can't treat their animals if they don't have the funds. The best I can do is offer Citi Health Financial or CareCredit. I feel for your friend because I totally understand what it's like to lose your best friend and I hope she does get the funds to treat her cat.

We DO have specialists, including an oncologist.

First, look around at other vets and other oncologist specialists. An MRI should NOT cost $4000. A few hundred, yes, from $300-600. I don't know many people that have $4000 laying around for a single diagnostic.

Also, I encourage your friend to check out CareCredit. It IS a credit card but for medical purposes. I'd see what vets in the area take it and apply. Depending on the clinic will depend on pay back policies. Most offer at least 6 months no interest. I have one from when a horse I had was looking at a $1600 surgery.

Unfortunately, if it IS a brain tumor, it won't go away. Chances are, it won't even go in remission, regardless of expensive treatments - and chemo does get expensive. Fortunately, animals don't react the same as humans. Getting that MRI might not yield any positive results and she may need to say goodbye in the near future. :(
