Oh. My. God.
I am soooo sick of the conservative ads saying a government insurance plan would "take away YOUR choice."
Okay...maybe. But how many people really have a choice in insurance anyway?
Pretty much everyone my age is either on their parents' plan, or they get healthcare at school. Once we're done with school, we get insurance through our employer. Because purchasing our own coverage is so expensive, it's pretty much impossible.
So I can only conclude that the people who have a "choice" are already very well-off and are only worried that government insurance won't be as good as what they're paying for.
I have to say, I don't feel a whole lot of sympathy there.
And they act like putting the government in charge of healthcare is going to kill us all. All of the things that keep us safe and healthy are already in government hands - the police, the fire department, the FDA. I would trust the government more with my health than the insurance and pharmaceutical companies that are actively fucking me over as we speak.
Just saying.
I am also sick of insurance companies talking about "protection" in their commercials. Auto insurance commercials talk about protecting the people in the car. Health insurance does it. Life insurance commercials say "life is too precious not to protect." But it's such a false advertisement, really. Auto insurance doesn't have anything to do with protecting people. It's not going to stop someone from dying in a car accident. It just replaces the car. Life insurance won't keep anyone from dying. It just pays for the funeral. So STFU already.
Man, I hate bullshit. I could deal with it if people didn't actually BUY IT but they do.
