fifteen men on a dead man's chest...yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

This is all ladybluestar's fault.

I don't care how much you like him. Ron's death is the only way to truly fix the damage book six did. And you'll see why. In numerical fashion.

1) If Ron dies, R/Hr dies with it. Obviously. Because Hermione seems pretty iffy on whether or not she even likes Ron. It's hardly the love of her life.

2) Once Ron is dead, Hermione and Harry are left to find the horcruxes/kill Voldythingy/mourn by themselves. This will renew the strong bond they were forming in OotP and everything shall be well again as Hermione won't be too busy with canaries to actually help him.

3) Did I mention that Ron's death will give Hermione her personality back?

4) Once both Ron and Voldythingy are dead, H/G will die. Hard. You see, Harry will no longer be comfortable with Ginny. He'll feel guilty about Ron's death and won't want to talk about it to her, if she even wants to talk about it. He'll have gone through horrendous things that Ginny won't understand, but she'll pretend she does, which will just annoy him. And, you know, she'll want to play Quidditch and have babies or whatever and he won't really be into that anymore. And finally...

5) Ginny and Hermione will have to fight for Harry's attention. It's already started - remember that scene in HBP where Hermione was all, "OMG, you shouldn't have used that spell," and Ginny was all, "Whatever, bitch," and Hermione was all, "No, seriously, you'll fuck everything up, including your Quidditch match!" and Ginny's all, "Oh, you did not bring up Quidditch - that's my common interest with Harry, hor!" Yeah, that's going to be ten times worse without Ron distracting Hermione. And who do you think will win that fight, eh? Ginny may have her stupid little Bat Bogey Hex, but Hermione's got KILLER CANARIES. Ha!

6) With Ron gone, all Hermione will have left in the world is Harry. And her parents, but she can barely talk to them anymore as they don't have a clue what she's been up to and if they did, they'd have heart attacks and die. She won't be an honorary Weasley anymore without a Weasley to marry, so Mrs. Weasley and Ginny will both be out to get rid of her. And as much as Harry loves the Weasleys, his loyalty to Hermione will be stronger. That's right, he'll choose her over joining the Happy Weasley Family.

7) Ron's outlived his usefulness, by the way. All he's really done over the years is fill Harry in on all the stuff he doesn't get about the wizarding world. He helped with that chess game that one time and his broken wand fixed everything in CoS, and he happened to have an evil rat in PoA, and he was good for stunning practice in GoF...but he's basically just been around for comic relief since book three. If the whole point of people dying in the series is to make Harry all sad and increase his will to kill Voldythingy, Ron is the ideal choice. He's not essential to Harry's being like Hermione. He doesn't really give Harry any useful solutions like Hermione. He's not the greatest fighter...he's less useful in a fight than Remus or Hagrid or even Neville. So if you're going to kill someone off, Ron is absolutely ideal.

8) Say Ron dies mid-Horcrux-hunt. Harry and Hermione would be all alone out in the world, on the run, with no one to snuggle or snog or screw before they die...OH WAIT, THEY'D HAVE EACH OTHER. ^^ Sounds good to me.

9) Ron tends to put dumb ideas in Harry's head. Like when he was all, "Come to Hogsmeade, Sirius can't kill you if you're under an invisiblity cloak!" Or, "Go on, Harry, use the mysteriously genius potions book! It's not like Snape could have written it or anything...." Frankly, Harry's better off without Ron encouraging him to do anything stupid.

10) Oh, and just to make it an even ten, Ron's sort of a liability in a fight. It's not like he'd ever, you know, get confunded and attacked by brains, but it's probably best that Harry doesn't constantly have to look after him. Better if he just kicks the bucket now.

JK Rowling, how can you not see my wisdom?

die ron die, rant, hp
