I DO enjoy watching my cow out in the pasture, happily grazing on the clover and ever so intently watching her young'un. It makes me think of a slower time of happy, lazy summer days. Rosie, on the hand, is delegated to stay in the barn until a new owner comes to claim her. Poor thing. She is the loudest critter on the farm!! Martha only voices her opinions when there are grave things to talk about. Abby only barks at Ford vehicles entering the yard. But Rosie, you can hear her from the house!!
We had the burn barrel going full force today. Good feeling, getting rid of junk. Excess excess.
My raised garden bed is pretty happy too. Radishes are ready. Spinach is small and not as prolific as I had hoped. Peas are reaching for the sky, so I gave them fencing to grow on. The tomatoes are legal - each having a license plate to block the heavy west winds. The carrots are lush green in three short rows across the gardenbed. The lettuce is a lovely light green color and ready for the table. The little marigolds are even starting to form buds. Winter onions waiting to grace some mexican dish. I may have a few strawberries, but they desperately need to be transplanted to where there is less grass. The raspberries are promising a bumper crop. In the field the acorn squash, zucchini, pumpkins, watermelon, and cabbage wish they had the soft ground the raised garden has. Flags mark the field crops so Steve doesn't cultivate them out.
That is life on the farm as I see it this 10th day of June 2007.
Thanks for listening. From Helena, where the women are handy , the men are handsome and the children are all good looking. (something like that)
