Most of you are probably members of literary_theory so you will have already seen this, i'd just like to point something out:
"Hello literary_theory! My interest in literary theory comes from a 4000-level Literary Criticism class at my college, Texas Christian University, where I found Aristotle, Longinus, Deleuze & Guattari, and Hayden White the most interesting.
I'm a 23-year-old full-time college student, male, living in Fort Worth Texas with my girlfriend and her mutt Jake. I go by Douglas (in most contexts) or Andy (with family and close friends); my handles are slon and slonDFW. Currently, as a junior in undergrad, I'm double-majoring in English and Philosophy. I plan to write for a living (fiction and nonfiction).
My favorite authors include Dostoevsky, Victor Hugo, Bram Stoker, Franz Kafka, Lewis Carroll, Stephen King, H. G. Wells, and the authors of dictionaries and grammar handbooks :-). I generally stick to heavily-philosophical novels and the science-fiction/fantasy/horror triad, but also enjoy Romantic-era novels and `canonical' works from other historical periods, particularly the classics.
As far as philosophy, I'm presently most interested in Aristotle, William James, and Kant.
And as an ex-musician and an ex-amateur composer/songwriter (a hand problem keeps me from playing), I enjoy the obligatory "all types" of music, with a special emphasis on rock, classical, jazz, and various other artists. Hey! That covers just about everything, doesn't it? So, more specifically: I prefer classic rock, progressive rock, and prog/thrash/speed/classic metal, as well as a few other select metal artists; baroque, romantic, and impressionistic classical music (esp. JS Bach, Rachmaninoff, Grieg, and Paganini); a little jazz (primarily Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, and various jazz-rock fusion artists); and innumerable others (for example, Shakira, The Misfits, Leahy, Sting, and The Beatles).
While not affiliated with any political party, I identify myself loosely as a small-l libertarian. I consider myself agnostic.
Hobbies include: reading (everything); computers (anything); following news/politics/culture; exercise, nutrition, and cooking; learning languages (esp. Greek andLatin); attending Toastmasters; Wikipedia; and playing classic video games (roughly from Pac-Man to the Super Nintendo era) or computer games (roughly from Might and Magic I to the Doom era).
