today was kind of awesome and by kind of i mean really. I entered a 72 hour documentary film competition called Reel-LA. Today I drove around Los Angeles, taping people, places, and things for a 3 minute documentary about LA. (I'll tell what the topic is later...need to keep it confidential until i turn in my final product) I went to Santa Monica, The Getty, Westwood (around UCLA), Rodeo Drive, and Hollywood and Highland. I spent a total of 16 dollars today on parking and food and had one of the best days ever. I was a tourist in what's becoming "my" city (St. Louis will always be my hometown), and I didn't have to deal with other people being hungry or needing to go to the bathroom, or being bored, or anything. I did what I wanted when I wanted. And filming my experience, and looking at the city through the eyes of a filmmaker and not being pissed off in traffic or feeling the need to get home soon made me love it even more. I saw so many cool things on the road...vintage shops, different signs, and I just had a feeling of freedom.
On my way to Hollywood and Highland I look to my right and see a Brooks Brothers. I wonder where I am and look at the cross street sign. It's Rodeo Drive. Although it wasn't on my gameplan, I turn around, find FREE parking, and walk down Rodeo about halfway. The whole spontanaeity was great.
When I was in Santa Monica, I had to make a U-Turn, but there was no place to make it. So I turn into this industrial park, and find myself around where I believe an old airplane manufacturing plant was (one of hte things I wanted to take video). It had turned into a VW and Audi plant, but because I was right near the Santa Monica Airport, there were planes taking off. I could hear the planes as I filmed the plant (so the sound will have been recorded). It was soooo perfect. :)
Tomorrow I'm off to film a little bit more and edit and then the AGG Lock-In. I don't know if I'll be able to stay up for the entirety of Never Have I Ever, lol.
