Favorite Films - A Revised List of 50 - from XIM

Jan 26, 2014 01:35

Greetings! I am posting a new list of my personal favorite films. Why? Well, I tried listing 25 films in a previous post on this blog. It was a difficult task, and I actually left some of my very favorite films off the list by mistake. How I forgot the incredible and mostly misunderstood "A.I. - Artificial Intelligence" shows that I was too limited, too hurried, and I did not put enough thought into that post.

This time I am just going to post my list of films without comments, but I encourage you to see every one of them if you can. Many of my favorites are imperfect, but they all have enough going on to make them worth viewing, often more than once if you are obsessive like myself. Film, after all is a very expensive and collaborative art form that is very subjective to each viewer.

This list is also incomplete and will probably change over time. Please post comments or even let us know your favorites. I am always looking for a good film to watch, old or new... one that combines great design or acting or direction... maybe one with a great story or photography. I even like to check out a unique score or editing job that makes a movie stand out from all the rest.

Okay, here we go, and I think I may try a top-ten list in the future and really comment on why they are the ones that move me the most. Thank-you for your attention and for visiting our movie blog! BTW, the list below is not in any particular order, they are just listed how I wrote them down in my notes.

1) A.I. Artificial Intelligence, 2) The Straight Story, 3) Star Wars, 4) Lost Highway, 5) Brazil, 6) One From the Heart, 7) The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, 8) 2001: A Space Odyssey, 9) Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, 10) Magical Mystery Tour, 11) Contact, 12) Harold and Maude, 13) Crimes and Misdemeanors, 14) Eraserhead, 15) The Empire Strikes Back 16) The Godfather, 17) Brainstorm, 18) A Clockwork Orange, 19) The Shining, 20) Blade Runner 21) A Hard Days Night 22) Alien 23) Annie Hall, 24) Star Trek The Motion Picture, 25) The Muppet Movie, 26) Manhattan, 27) Citizen Kane, 28) Deconstructing Harry, 29) Superman The Movie, 30) Ed Wood, 31) Legend, 32) Apocalypse Now, 33) American Graffiti, 34) The Abyss, 35) The Lord of the Rings, 36) Lady and the Tramp, 37) Koyaanisqatsi, 38) Sid and Nancy, 39) Raiders of the Lost Ark, 40) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, 41) Halloween, 42)The Big Lebowski, 43) Broken Flowers, 44) Dune, 45) A Brief History of Time, 46) Jaws, 47) Fantasia, 48) My Life as a Dog, 49) Apollo 13, 50) Annie Hall.

Again, this list is ever evolving, probably incomplete, and is a reflection of my own personal taste. It is not a list of what I think are the most important and historical films... I know that some others that I love like 'Metropolis' or 'Nosferatu' or 'The Graduate' or even 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' have impacted the world of cinema more, along with many important films from other countries, etc.

It is just a list of movies that I fell in love with (or to) at some point in my life and I hope that you may have a similar emotional reaction if you choose to check some of them out, or give some of them you have already seen another look. Tastes change in people over time, so settle in with some popcorn and some Junior Mints and get carried away to another time and another world.

If you are interested, I have written full reflections and reviews of many of these movies on this blog. You can access them by clicking on the list you see to the left on our main page. Thanks!
