Yeah, Y. was talking about that last night, about how most of the score and sound effects from the first season were used with airplane sounds. Played with of course, tempo, pitch, stretched, etc so it's not obvious but most of that first seasons score and music or auditory effects were made by taken a few hundred different sounds parts of a plane made then going into a studio and synthesizing it. That's a very Lynchian idea, but even J.J. Abrams talks about the importance of "Twin Peaks" on TV and without it, there would be no X-files, no Supernatural, no interesting, sci-fi, crazy, weird scenes and sounds, is this real or not, 'what was that' TV. It's every where now but I think the firsts were The Twilight Zone, Doctor Who, and The Prisoner in the 60s but in the late 80s/early 90s, without "Twin Peaks" turning up the 'weirdness heat', there wouldn't be half the interesting /mysterious/spooky/watercooler Telly that there has been in the last two decade, including 'Lost'. I am not a fan of contemporary television usually, but Lost, The New Who, American Horror Story, and a couple HBO and a few BBC shows are FINALLY seeing that there -is- an intelligent demographic out there that doesn't need nor want a laugh track and is fine without the show connecting the dots FOR them. Someone caught on that some of us think for ourselves and don't want to be told what this show is or isn't about.....and Voila, a bunch of groovy and worthwhile shows come down the pipe.
Yeah, while I like maybe one show with a laugh track, How I Met Your Mother, in most shows that is annoying. There are so many really great shows these days though and it's so great.
I had to look it up then cause I was unsure, I just said that cause that's what I thought they did. It turns out that is what they do most of the time, they show the episode to a group before it's aired and get the laugh track from that. Other times, if they can do a small set, they apparently use a live audience. With all the flashbacks and such in the show it makes sense.
Thanks for the research, hon!! Yeah, our circles hate us...we are such a Marshall and Lily. I am 5 3' on a good day, a red-headed artist and he is 6 foot 6 and Y. and I are joined at the hip...I think it grosses out our single friends..when you have been in love this long... it kinda drips off ya, you know?
