Maybe ((and please forgive me if Im's wrong)) you were either too young then which makes you too young to connect THAT music and opulence with the Yuppie-Centric, Status-Symbol 80s.

I admit, I was born in Aug. of '79 (I like to think I was born, took a look around at all the disco skating and 'Me Decade' BULLSHIT and ga-ga goo-goo-ed "O HELL NO!! This will NEVER do!! LET THE EIGHTIES BEGIN!!!!" and thus they started a few months later.)

I am not into or about the money, yuppie, "Dynasty/Dallas/Falcon Crest/ Knotts Landing/ 'who shot J.R.' 80s. I am more into the underground eighties, the interesting cinema, 'who shot Laura Palmer' type of stuff and though I love and own music from the 20s thru the 90s (From early Jazz, so early it was almost ragtime) to Radiohead. But my fave music comes from the second British invasion in the late 70s and into the 80s. Depeche' Mode', Joy Division, The Smiths, The Cure, New Order and everything 'darkwave' before goth was goth and emo was emo. Back before Manic Panic when my big brother's New Wave Band had to dye their hair with Kool-Aid to get pink, green, blue, or whatever.

Yes, I was young for the 1980s...single digit young. But I had an older brother that graduated in the middle of them so I was SURROUNDED by good music, great movies, and the best part of the 80s, not the coke-snorting, stock exchanging 80s. Yet had I been a Y.U.P.rofessional with money to BLOW, as the French Monarchy did, Most of us would have been doing what they did. In fact, Look at Princess Diana's dress collection. And she was called "The People's Princess...The Princess of Hearts" and Maria Antoina (changed to Marie Antoinette once she entered France) did the same and pamphlets and graffiti of the day called her "The Queen of Deficit" and "Madame of Debt!!"

Yet her handler's and friends kept this from her. There is a scene in the movie which happened more than once. When tittering about people being hungry in her Kingdom got to her (which again, she was ignorant as to how big this was because she was kept so) she gave a handful of her personal jewels (she couldn't give 'Royal Jewels' as they belonged to France) and said, "Hopefully this will buy the people much meat and bread. I can look just as ornate and attractive with flowers in my hair. I don't need diamonds everywhere, but everybody keeps giving them to me"

Though a girl (and most girl's are prone to selfishness) she loved children and animals. She was generous and kind. Because of the King's sexual problems, they couldn't consummate/have a child/heir for more than SEVEN years. She didn't humiliate her dull and near repugnant husband. She let the French court laugh at -her- inability to be a bonny and buxom bride and made jokes that because it was so cold in Austria, 'her cunny must still be frozen.'
