Hello All, Sorry I don't review often but unlike Xim, Yearrgsworth, and Zu, I end up watching a LOT more Television than movies. So until we decide to start doing T.V. shows as well, you will only hear from me the rare occasions I watch a movie instead of a T.V. series.
I knew what I was going in to when I began watching and while I normally run for the hills when anything resembling a 'romance tear-jerker' is advertised, I thought this might me different. I was wrong.
The premise is simple: Terminally ill man has the strength of mind and resolve to send his widow letters after his death with directions on how to get through her first year without him. A whole lot could have been done with that but they stuck to well worn out cliche's.
Then she lives happily every after. The Fucking End.
I knew going into it that this had 'chick flick' written all over it, but so did 'The Lake House' and 'The Note Book', both of which I kinda enjoyed. The best film of this genre that I have seen lately has been 'The Time Traveler's Wife'. I had low expectations going into that one and was very impressed and surprised at the well handled material. I may have even had something in my eye at the time, causing me to shed a tear or three. Unfortunately, I went into "P.S. I love you" with similar expectations and was beyond disappointed. In fact, I want those two hours of my life back, please!!
It had a GREAT premise and is indeed something I plan on doing one day (leave my loved ones letters, not make a shitty movie) but it didn't really flow. The laughs weren't funny and the tears weren't exactly sad. It was just an odd mix that read 'fake' for me.
Maybe I'm alone and some of you loved it. But that's my opinion and I am sticking to it. ;)
