1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Went to Seattle instead of just passing through.

I didn't really achieve anything.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finding a decent job.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Chipped my tooth. Had ascites and spontaneous bacterial peritontis. Lost my voice for a while.

Concert and bus tickets. My SxSW pass. My iPod Touch.

Everybody's, including my own.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Anything by Girl Talk.
David Bowie, "Cat People (Putting Out the Fire)"
My Bloody Valentine, "You Made Me Realise"
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. happier or sadder? Surprisingly, happier
II. thinner or fatter? Thinner.
III. richer or poorer? Poorer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Cleaning! Looking for work! Moviegoing!
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying, crying, spending time in the hospital.
20. How did I spend Christmas?
Hanging out with dad and Parker.
21. [like last year, there is no question 21]
Fine, I'll just have to make one up myself.
Q. What really started to piss you off this year?
The realization that males tend to see me as friend/sister/dude who happens to have a vagina rather than a potential love interest or a woman. It gets even worse when they bitch to me about how their girlfriends don't know movies/music/comics like I do.
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Yeah, but it was unrequited. Also fell in love with life, but I'm not sure how life feels about me.
23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.
24. What was your favourite TV program?
Mad Men. Duh.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Oh yeah.
26. What was the best book you read?
While I did read, nothing really springs to mind.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. They sound like 1992, like Sloan and Jesus and Mary Chain, so my inner teenager is smitten and contentedly reading Sassy.
Girl Talk. I know I'm behind the curve, but I'm old and cynical.
28. What did you want and get?
The chance to finally see My Bloody Valentine. The Capitol Hill Block Party weekend in Seattle. Plans to go to SxSW in 2010! A new friend for life!
29. What did you want and not get?
A better job. The promotion. A certain boy, but that's increasingly okay.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
I have so many! Inglourious Basterds and Up are but two of them.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned thirty-one and watched Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II on the big screen.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A better job. A boyfriend. Not winding up so sick in December.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Jeans + tee + sneakers + my new trademark, a black knit cap worn backwards. In colder months, I throw my Grannie's lavender sweater on.
34. What kept you sane?
Movies, music, various friends and coworkers. And sleep. Lots of sleep.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I never answer this one.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Housing.
37. Who did you miss?
My mom. N. Sherman. And when I was in the hospital, everybody.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Um...I don't have an answer.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you earned in 2009:
Although part of me will always long to be the girl who gets an arm put around her during Ninja Assassin and flirted with over drinks post-movie, it's far better, longer lasting, and much more fun to be the girl who gets to play laser tag, eat bad pizza, and watch six movies over thirty-one hours.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
A song lyric? Limiting me, are we now? How bout all of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. Or Deerhunter's "Nothing Ever Happened" or "Rainwater Cassette Exchange." Just one lyric? Really. Okay, fine: "You could close your eyes/But you might as well commit suicide." No, wait: "You think you can't/you wish you could/I know you can/I wish you would." Or: "Come on, and let it happen to you/I say, I say come on, and let it happen to you/You gotta open up your mind/And let everything come through..."
Sigh...would you settle for a playlist?
