Should have seen it coming

Oh, by the way, we're being evicted. So says our neighbour, who told us that the entire Speedway Suites complex was being torn down for--what else?--condos. We've got a year, but the dude and I haven't seen so much as one eviction notice. Unless you count that that Jeannie's Neighbourhood newsletter/realtor advertisement where she dished about the upcoming demolition of both the Speedway Suites and the neighbouring building, Royal Place. But seeing as how that document also included a picture of the aforementioned realtor posing with a lobby standee featuring the Simpsons sitting in their living room, I don't think it counts. Either way, come June of 2008, we're out of here.

So where do we go? Somewhere in East Vancouver that's both affordable and welcomes cats (or at least just lets them live there), with at least two bedrooms. That's the hope. The reality may be either way more than we were paying for our three-bedroomed corner of the world or somewhere out in Surrey--or both. And in my nightmares, that's only if we're lucky.

Of course, we've got to get rid of a hell of a lot of stuff before we go anywhere. We've got an apartment full of our stuff, plus mom's stuff and grannie's stuff and grandma and grandpa's stuff. Some of it is sentimental and worth keeping, but a lot of it is just crap from a time gone by that we barely remember and don't really want to recall anyway. My bare-bones plan is to take the books and other media, the electronics, the useful furniture and the essentials--and just abandon the rest. I mean, if this building's just getting knocked down anyway, why shouldn't my Grade 9 picture and mom's old boombox go with it?
