Set in the neon-washed underworld of present-day Hong Kong, Fallen Angels intertwines two exhilarating tales of love and isolation. First, there's the unconsummated love affair between a contract Killer (Leon Lai Ming) and the ravishing female Agent (Michele Reis) who books his assignments and cleans up after his jobs. When the Killer decides that he must move on, he leaves her with only a coin for the jukebox and instructions to play song number 1818 - "Wang Ji Ta" ("Forget Him") . . .
Ex-convict Ho (Takeshi Kaneshiro) stopped speaking at the age of five after eating a date-expired can of pineapple. He lives with his father, who runs a guesthouse where the Agent is in semi-permanent residence. He makes a living by re-opening shops that have closed for the night and intimidating customers into buying goods and services from him. After an awkward romance with a girl named Cherry, Ho finds himself all the more alone . . .

Ashes of Time, originally completed in 1994, was the first film from director Wong Kar Wai’s Jet Tone production company. The film received only a limited release and, in the years since, the existing prints and negatives had become damaged or destroyed. “To rectify this situation,” Wong Kar Wai states, “we decided to revisit this project and to create the definitive version.” Ashes of Time is inspired by characters from Louis Cha’s martial arts novel The Eagle-Shooting Heroes and centers on a man named Ouyang Feng. Since the woman he loved rejected him, he has lived in the western desert, hiring skilled swordsmen to carry out contract killings. His wounded heart has made him pitiless and cynical, but his encounters with friends, clients and future enemies make him conscious of his solitude. The cast includes some of Hong Kong Cinema's most important actors: Leslie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Carina Lau, and a special appearance by Maggie Cheung.

Iranian-American filmmaker Marjan Tehrani chronicles her brother's return to Iran as he travels with his American wife to have a Persian wedding ceremony and explore his lost heritage. Using dynamic historical footage and weaving it with the couple's personal story, Arusi Persian Wedding explores the history and impact of the broken relationship between Iran and America. Behind the curtain of political tension, the film offers rare glimpses of both modern and traditional Iran, displaying a vibrant and complex country that is sealed off to much of the West. Defenders of Riga dramatizes the events of November 11, 1919 - Lacplesis Day - a crucial date in the battle for Latvian independence. In the aftermath of WWI, a part of the defeated German army still based in the newly independent Republic of Latvia regrouped under the self-serving German General von der Golz. The rogue general, aided by Russian Colonel Bermont in initially masking the true identity of the aggressors from the Allies, ordered the renegade army of about 50,000 to attack Riga. His plan was to take over two of the diminutive Baltic States, Latvia and Estonia, and create a new Germanic state under his rule. Though vastly outnumbered, the Latvian army together with many non-military volunteers totaling some 11,000 men, miraculously managed to defend Riga by pushing back and defeat the Germans. This film is not only the most ambitious feature-length production in the history of Latvian cinema, but also the highest grossing box office film to be released in Latvia. It was also Latvia's official submission for the Foreign-Language Film category of the 2009 Academy Awards.
