Evil Dead II (1987) 85 minutes R 35mm

In this squeal/remake of Evil Dead, Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend Linda take a romantic vacation to a seemingly abandoned cabin in the woods While in the cabin, Ash plays a tape of the cabin's previous inhabitant, archeology professor Professor Knowby, who had unearthed the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (or "Book of the Dead"). Playing passages from the book aloud, a sister force possess Linda and Ash is forced to kill her. The evil continues to torment Ash, possessing his hand. Professor Knowby's daughter Annie and her boyfriend Ed return to cabin in search of the Necronomicon, unaware that the Evil is loose once more. Directed by Sam Rami, Evil Dead 2 combines slapstick with gore, for one groovy time.

Shaun (Simon Pegg) is an appliance salesman whose life is going nowhere. He follows a mundane routine and his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) is dissatisfied with their relationship, primarily because it revolves around going to The Winchester, Shaun's favourite pub, every night. Following a broken promise to do something special for their anniversary, Liz dumps Shaun. He decides to drown his sorrows at the pub with his other flatmate Ed (Nick Frost), his best friend. After a night of drinking, he has an epiphany and resolves to sort his life out. Unfortunately, this revelation comes at the same time as an uprising of the undead, who begin to attack and devour the living. Shaun and Ed grab whatever is at hand to repel the attacking zombies, summoning reserves of strength they didn't know they possessed and straining muscles they forgot they had. Rounding up friends and family, they press on towards the sanctuary of the Winchester. All that stands in their way are hordes of the flesh-eating undead.

The Katakuris are a four-generation family of failures who use the father's redundancy pay to buy a guest house in the country. Somehow, each of their guests ends up dead - by suicide, accident or murder - and once they have made the decision to save their business by burying the bodies and concealing the deaths, they find themselves sucked into a nightmare of lies and fear - for the guests won't stay dead!

Linda Blair plays Regan, a 12-year-old girl possessed by the devil. After exhausting all the options of science, psychology, and medicine, Regan's mother (Ellen Burstyn) realizes the supernatural nature of her daughter's condition and resorts to a religious solution, turning to Father Karras (Jason Miller) for an exorcism. Aided by the mysterious Jesuit exorcist Father Merrin (Max von Sydow), Karras must confront not only supernatural phenomena but also his own inadequate faith and displaced guilt over his mother's recent death, a personal torment Regan uses to manipulate him, but with disturbing results.

On Halloween in Haddonfield, Illinois, having already shown signs of psychopathic tendencies, ten year old Michael Myers murders his sister Judith, her boyfriend Steve, his mother’s boyfriend Ronnie, and a school bully. After the longest trial in the state’s history, Michael is found guilty of first degree murder and sent to Smith's Grove Sanitarium under the care of child psychologist Dr. Sam Loomis (Malcolm McDowell). Fifteen years late Michael escapes and returns to Haddonfield. The story shifts to Laurie Strode, and her friends Annie Brackett and Lynda Van Der Klok on Halloween. Throughout the day, Laurie witnesses Michael watching her from a distance. Having been alerted to Michael's escape, Dr. Loomis comes to Haddonfield looking for Michael. After obtaining a handgun, Loomis goes to warn Sheriff Brackett that Michael has returned to Haddonfield. Brackett and Dr. Loomis head to the Strode home, with Brackett explaining along the way that Laurie is actually Michael Myers' baby sister . . .

In a surreal French port-town, young children have been disappearing from the streets. In an oil rig out at sea live the mad scientist Krank, a man who cannot dream. In order to supplement his dream deficit, Krank has children kidnapped by a gang of blind men cult of called the Cyclops, in order to study and extract their dreams. Unfortunately for Krank, this scheme fails as the experience of being kidnapped by the menacing Krank is so traumatic that the children have only nightmares. When a sideshow strongman One's (Ron Perlman) "little brother" Denree is taken, One searches through the underbelly of the city, looking for the lost children, with the help of a young pick pocket Miette. Pursued by the Cyclops and a sinister pair of Siamese twins known as The Octopus, One and Miette race to save Denree. From the directorial team of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, Delicatessen) and Marc Caro (Delicatessen) and featuring a score by Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive).
