Tomorrow begins the Fourth Annual Atlanta Asian Film Festival! Cinefest is excited to be a venue for the first time this year!
Death Note is our featured film of the week, however it is also screening in conjunction with the AAFF. What this means that the screenings on Saturday and Sunday at 6pm will have the festival price of $8 for non-GSU patrons. All other screenings of Death Note will have the usual price of $3 before 5pm and $5 5pm and after for non-GSU patrons.
GSU students, faculty, and staff are admitted free to all screenings with their Panther I.D. card.

The story begins when Light Yagami (Tatsuya Fujiwara, Battle Royale), an ace student with great prospects, finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god named Ryuk. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and Light vows to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals mysteriously begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to investigate, and he is soon hot on the trail of Light, who must reevaluate his once-noble goal. Both Light and L believe themselves to be on the side of justice, and the two match wits trying to show exactly which of them is "good" and which of them is "evil." Based on the best selling manga.

Nicknamed "sparrow", a pickpocket lifts wallets from unsuspecting targets with elegance and grace, like a sparrow fluttering its wings through a congested cityscape. Fai and his 3 associates lead carefree and playful lives as pickpockets. When the mysterious Beauty charms them into stealing a key, the sparrows worry about what they're getting themselves into, but accept the job when Beauty threatens to take her own life. Mystery builds as the sparrows go forward with their plan. At the rendezvous point, Hollywood Inn, Beauty and the key disappear altogether. It seems Beauty carries many secrets, including her relationship with the reclusive powerful tycoon, Mr. Yen. The sparrows are playing with fire, although this knowledge hardly lessens their intrigue.

Fengjie‚ the old town is already under water, but its new neighbourhood hasn't been finished yet. There are things to salvage and there are things to leave behind‚ Han Sanming, a miner, travels to Fengjie to look for his ex-wife whom he has not seen in 16 years. Seeing each other by the Yangtze River, they decide to remarry. Shen Hong, a nurse, travels to Fengjie to look for her husband who hasn't come home in two years. They hug in front of the Three Gorges Dam. Despite a dance, they sadly call it quits and decide to divorce. Winner of the top award at 2006 Venice Festival, this sober look at the human price of inevitable technological changes (building of dam on Yangtze River) continues Jia Zhang-ke's exploitation of his recurrent concern with tradition versus modernity.

Presenting the Atlanta premiere of PUBLIC ENEMY RETURNS! The story: Low wages and lack of respect tempts Detective Kang Chul-Joong to turn in his badge, however before he can walk away, he's forced to solve a murder case involving Lee Won-Sul, a high-powered business executive. The more Kang tries to prove that Lee is a ringleader of a criminal organization, the more he's dismissed as a crackpot has-been. Filmmaker Kang Woo-suk mixes pulse-pounding action and dark humor into this genre-bending crime film.
