I once declared myself a lover of words, and at the time it was true. My heart overflowed with affection for diction, syntax, and rhyme. But like all past lovers, the warm feelings have faded. Now I am facing a very messy, heartwrenching break-up with 2,500 words on the American identity in The Awakening. My affection has faded, and words and I are now bitter ex-lovers.
