In related news, Coach Bill Fenlon of DePauw University was on the air with AM 1070 after the game. It was an INCREDIBLE interview. Coach talked about how Brad Stevens came to him as a consult when he (Brad) was considering to leave Eli Lilly to coach college basketball. Wow. I didn't know any of that, and it was REALLY cool to listen to. Coach Fenlon may not have been on the court tonight, but have NO DOUBT he was in the huddle with Butler through the whole game. And now, he'll be going to the NCAA Div. I Championship Game, even without leaving Greencastle.
Really, Jon may be on cloud nine because of Butler's success, and so am I... but I am also completely and totally stoked for DePauw.
Earlier this season, the beginning of the season in fact, DePauw played an exhibition game against Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. November 1st. How cool is that?!? DePauw... Div. III Depauw... played against a Div. I team that is going to the NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP!!! And next season, Butler will be coming to DePauw for the other half of this series. An NCAA Div. I Championship Game team will be coming to play against DePauw... win or lose, THAT is still an incredible, incredible thing.
I hope others out there realize this.
Yes, I've had my fair share of beer tonight. I've just drinking this all in (pun intended). It's been an amazing night. Monday is going to be fantastic. Again, win or lose, we made it. We got there.
