previous days Day 25 - A first, in great detail
My first date was adorably lame. It was with this boy named Chad. We met at SWFTY (South West Federation of Temple Youth) and I was so smitten I forgot to say yes when he asked me out.
He called me to tell me that there was this going on at his youth group (we went to different Temples) and he thought it would be fun if we went together. I was SO DENSE I did not get that it was him asking me for a date. So we talked around it for a while until I finally blurted out “But um, it’s for your youth group only.” And there was a long pause on the phone (yeah, on the phone) and he said, “We can bring dates.” And I … um. Died. I smiled so hard that the corners of my eyes hurt.
I was fifteen and he was sixteen and so I told him that he’d half to pick me up. This was a mistake. My mom practically bubbled at him and I was shaking and hoping she didn’t do something totally stupid and he was nervous too (it was so cute!) and I just about melted on the spot.
We went to dinner at this Mediterranean restaurant. Get this, my sister ended up being there with friends and sat down a few tables away from us and watched us like hawks. Like I wasn’t nervous enough.
Then we went Israeli Dancing. Which would have been pretty romantic if it wasn't for the fact that I have no sense of rhythm and stepped on his feet and made an ass out of myself like 9000 times. He was a perfect gentleman, met me at the door and even though he knew my mom he introduced himself. He dropped me off at the front door and there was a moment but I chickened out. We didn't kiss. Lame lame lame. ;)
