Mid-winter auto stuff

Sigh. Alas the weather is cold again. I did get the tree down (from last post).

We have been doing quite a few things around here.

I started a mosaic class this month through a friend's art gallery and studio. Although it is fun, interesting and I have learned skills for later projects, mainly household; I do not see myself turning into a mosaic artist. I have so many other neglected hobbies that starting another one just doesn't seem like a good move.
So far I've almost completed a paving stone, and am working on a terracotta plant pot for outside.

We've also been going out more and socializing with friends. We saw the Reverend Horton Heat a couple of weekends ago. It was the first time I had got to see him and his band perform live. We weren't disappointed.

Yesterday I took our vehicle into the Jeep auto dealership for some work. It had been making this crunching noise any time when we drove over bumps. It's fixed now.

The mate was going to follow me over in his old 1981 Jeep CJ. It really doesn't get drove too much anymore; but it refused to start, even after a battery jump. Later I opened the hood and noticed a massive amount of corrosion on the battery terminals. So being the nice and capable wife I am, I spent quite some time with baking soda, a toothbrush and water cleaning them up. We suspect though we probably need a new battery, as it's been in there for around six years or so ago. I did however get it to start and it ran like a champ.

The dealership was so busy that I had to wait over an hour for a shuttle to take me back home. That was fine, I just hung around people and auto watching. Nearly everyone in the customer lounge was on their cell phone. Gee what did we do before cell phones? Oh yeah we engaged in conversation with people in person. Remember?

Anyway all is fairly well with the vehicles again. I do find it funny though how it seems I'm the one who keeps track of a size-able chunk of the auto maintenance and repair. The mate is very capable about these sorts of tasks, he just seems to blow them off more than I do.

I don't mind because after growing up with a former aerospace worker and Air Force plane mechanic (my dad) and associating and dating many a motor-headed male, I'm actually fairly knowledgeable. It just seems that somehow I see it as a bigger priority? Hmmm...not sure...maybe a little laziness is in there too.
