lj_releases has now posted publicly about the new friends page redesign which is now in beta testing. It appears it will be mandatory from the wording used ("The friends page has been redesigned as a system page for all users

I'll comment, because I think it's ugly and because I find Tumblr very confusing. But I doubt it will do much good. I saw somewhere that they are really concentrating on Russia now, and cutting back on their presence in the US. Don't remember where I saw that, but it was fairly recent.
Yes they're concentrating their operations in Russia, but LJ has always had users all over the world, and users from all over are commenting negatively on this, so I don't think it's about them being Russian as much as them being idiots. :-)
I didn't mean that they were making the changes because they are Russians, just that if that's where they think the majority of their important customers are, that they won't pay much attention to complaints from the rest of us. But at least if/when everyone leaves in droves for DW, they'll know why. ;)
Yes, by Russians I meant that you meant that they only cared about Russian customers. LOL! Got that? But my point was that I don't think they care about any customers, frankly. I don't know what the logic is.
DW was created by fans for fandom. I really like it there, but I've resisted because...everyone is here at LJ. And change is difficult. And I don't want to be in two places. But they may have forced my hand. We'll see how this FL things plays out.
I haven't found it too difficult. Some things are different enough to require some grumbling and extra thought, but mostly I just post there (which automatically goes to LJ) and read once every day or so. Of course, I can get away with that because almost everyone on my flist who is on DW is also on LJ, so I catch them here. I think there are only one or two people who I can only see if I go to DW to read. If everybody goes, then it will have to become my mail reading place, and LJ will become the one to check when I have time for it.
My issue will be the people who stay here and don't crosspost to DW, because I don't want to lose touch but I also don't want to deal with that ugly "system page." I suppose I could set up a filter with just the folks who aren't on DW and that would make it a shorter endless scroll, at least, LOL!
That's true - if some go, and some don't, it's more scrolling. But, yeah, making a small filter of only those who remain might make it manageable. Especially if almost everybody goes to DW except a few diehards.

Yes, that's exactly how I feel. They're making me leave and I'm not happy about it but I'm even less happy about having to use something I don't want to and losing my paid account status.

But I agree that it will likely do little good.
