Summary: Basically it does what it says on the tin. Sorry I took so long but I've been up to my eyeballs in work. I've never written Ray before so I hope I do okay. Thanks to
elfbert for the idea.
1. He joined the force to do good hadn’t he? He'd seen coppers patrol there patch making sure the scum of the earth got what they deserved. With their brightly polished buttons and their freshly ironed uniform , they were pillars of the community and with that came respect. Respect that's all Ray wanted. To be recognised as a hard working man who helped Manchester a cleaner place to live.
His mum had been so proud when he signed up. 'Little boy in blue 'she had said with tears in her eyes. It was always just the three of them: him, mum and Jennifer. Jenny was his little sister. Ten years his junior she was his pride and joy. With Ray as the only man of the house it was up to him to bring in the money, which there seemed to a desperate lack of. Jenny always seemed to need new shoes or a new pen, or it was his mum asking for rent money. No matter how many shifts he did they never seemed to be enough. So Ray did what every copper did. He took a bribe whilst looking another way whilst a drug dealer dealt out a batch of drugs to some teenagers . He tried to convince himself that it was okay. Everyone did it, what was another drug users? He tried to ignore the truthful voice accusing him that those 'teenagers were the same age as jenny'. The gnawing feeling that started to attack his insides whenever he took a bribe started subside after a large quantity of alcohol, but it always came back the next morning. If he could do it again he would do it differently.
2. He sometimes envied Annie. The way she talked to people. At first he was fully against the idea of a bird in the office. I mean all right she had a nice bum to look at and as well as a good set of jugs on her which he could ogle at when he got bored, but apart from that his thoughts on birds on the beat was still strong. It wasn’t until he had interviewed a young girl of twenty for what seemed like three hours did he realise that Annie could do more than look nice. She had joined him in the lost and found, and just started to chit chat with the girl about everything and anything, until the girl gave Annie her the information they needed. Ray was impressed it had taken him half an hour to get her name and her age. It had taken Annie 5 minutes to get her alibi as well as a possible motive for the killings, and just by not putting any pressure on they suspect. He wished he could just relax and what Annie did, but when he interviewed he like to be blunt and to the point. But this wasn’t as always as effective as other methods. Maybe it wasn’t all that bad having a bird on the team after all.
3. He regretted Billy Kemble's death more than anything. The way his body was just spread out on the floor made his blood turn cold. But worst of all was the look he got from the guv. It was full of despair and disappointment. The man he looked up to, who he wanted to be like had demoted him, his face was twisted with disgust. Ray's insides shrivelled with shame and embarrassment. So he made a vow to himself that nothing like this would happen again. So every year on the very day that kemble died he left some flowers at his grave. To show his sorrow of the tragedy, and to show that if he could take back time and change things he would.
4.Unbone to anyone but his mum and sister. Ray despises his moustache more than another feature he possess. It's unfortunate but true that under this said moustache that Ray has unsightly mole on his top lip. It's been with him all his life and has been the source of most humour between some people. So on his 21st birthday he decided enough was enough and to hide it he would grow a moustache, and there it has been ever since. He was touched when Chris tried to grow one, but if he had his way he want to get rid of it.
5. Ray glanced other to corner of the dance floor where he could see Sam and Annie sharing a slow dance. Ray sneered it was so soppy the way those two clung to each other. He watched as Sam lent closer to Annie so he could smell her hair. Ray snorted and looked to the other side of the room where there where tables and chairs. A few metres away he could see the attractive Mrs Hunt sat on the lap of his guv. He watched as Mrs Hunt giggled as the guv whispered sweet nothings into her ear.
'Looks like someone was going to get their leg over tonight', Ray mused. I just wasn’t fair, he thought angrily. If everyone else could parade their loves of life in front of everyone else why couldn’t he. What did it matter if they were the same gender. It was still love. Ray looked to the bar where he saw Chris ordering drinks. Ray grinned as he saw Chris flick his long fringe out of his eyes. It was one of the most lovable things. Ray wished he was good with words but he wasn’t. It didn’t really matter though Chris knew how Ray felt. Every moment was precious, when ever it was a quick kiss in the lost and found, or a lazy Sunday in bed it was still magic. Ray sighed all he wanted to do was kiss Chris in public , and publicly have a open relationship instead of sneaking around like some of naughty school boys that had pornographic magazines. But they never be excepted, Sam would probably be really smug and claim he knew all along, whilst the guv would probably kick them at of the station.
Chris came up to him and nudged him with his elbow, "Fancy a dance?"
"That's probably not a good idea since we're at the annual Lancashire Constabulary dinner dance surrounded by police officers."
"Yer, your probably right, we'd only make them jealous."
Ray smiled, Chris was the love of life and nothing was going to change that but still it would be nice to change people’s views and beliefs.
