I admit it. I've never been to a straight 21+ club. In fact, I've never been to a straight club in general, aside from that one trip down to Tijuana that we'll never speak of again.
My Mother's Opinions on the Issue:
CIN: I went dancing again!
MOM: Dancing? Oooh. Did you meet any boys?
CIN: Er, yes. Lots of them.
MOM: ... They're not straight, are they?
CIN: *whistles innocently*
MOM: Call me back when you've been to a straight club, dear.
So, I actually TRIED. I swear that we did. We set out at 11pm to go *gasps* straight!clubbing. For the record, Chris and Pang are two of Tia's Straight Boys, and they decided to come along with us.
On Choosing a Club:
CHRIS: So, I want to go to a place that has rock music.
CIN: *stares* I'm sorry, I could've sworn that we were going clubbing tonight.
CHRIS: Well, yeah. But I hate all that gangsta' hip-hop stuff. So I want a club with rock.
CIN: Uh ... have you ever tried dancing to rock?
CHRIS: Well, no. I don't dance.
CIN: ... I could've sworn that we were going clubbing tonight.
At "Club" #1:
BOUNCER: This isn't really a club. We just had a dj here tonight, but it's $40 to get in.
CIN: Oh, no thanks. Do you have any recommendations for good clubs?
BOUNCER: *gives some and then looks at watch* Are you here all alone?
CIN: Oh, no. My friends are around the corner. We wanted to go out dancing together.
BOUNCER: Aww, damn. I get off pretty soon, and if you were here all alone, I could take you around town, and I'd get you in for free. *winks at me* I could show you around, baby.
CIN: *stares at scary, scary man and his overdeveloped-and-flexing muscles in horror* Er ... we're going to check out those suggestions now. Bye!
On Choosing a Club, Take 2:
TIA: I want techno!
PANG: I don't want to spend too much money.
CHRIS: Do you know of anywhere to go?
CIN: I know of some gay clubs...
PANG AND CHRIS: *look uncomfortable*
BRENDAN: *is Tia's fiance and is silently secure*
CIN: So. We want a cheap, straight club that plays techno music.
ALL: Right!
INNER CIN: Right, and then we can find the Holy Grail while we're at it! *dies*
We wandered San Diego streets for hours in search of such a club, getting redirected by person after person. There were only two clubs that had techno and (mostly) straight attendance. These cost $25 for a cover charge (not even drinks!) and would've only been open for an hour more. In the end, we gave up and spent our last hour in a wannabe!Irish pub, listening to a guy sing (well, screech and hiccup are probably more apt terms) as he played the guitar, drums, and harmonica by himself.
At the End of the Night:
CIN: So... a cheap club with techno music...
TIA: How about we try the gay clubs next time?
BRENDAN: I'd be up for it.
PANG: Agreed.
CHRIS: *wibbles*
CIN: *facepalms*
SUMMARY: I have still never been to a straight club. On the other hand, my legs are looking nice and toned after the three and a half hours we spent walking downtown.
So, for those of you who have been to a straight club, what's this mythical place like?
