Brief (if I can do "brief") summary of what's been going on the last six months or so:
Honduras/Learning Spanish
My daughter and I went on a week-long mision trip to Honduras in June. It was a great experience and we want to go back next year--we're currently trying to work that out. This time, my son will go, too. :) We have no idea how we'll pay for it, but if God wants us to go I think He'll work that out.
In conjunction with this, I'm trying to learn Spanish. I'm learning bits and pieces, but it's a little overwheming. We'll see how far I get.
High School
Life continues to be very focused on my kids, and I actually love that. They started high school this year and they're turning fifteen in two weeks. So far they seem to be having pretty good experiences--they have a little more freedom and they have more flexibility in choosing their classes. One thing I like is that their school is only 9th and 10th grades, but it's still huge.
It seems like I spend a lot of time driving them places, and it will be nice when they can do that on their own. Except that I have no idea what they will drive!
Work
In addition to my boring duties (they're not boring to me, but they would be boring for you to read about), I've started getting more and more into social networking as a marketing tool. I've come upon this by default because I meet two requirements:
1) I sit in front of a computer at work
2) I know how to use Facebook.
I started a blog, a Facebook page, and a Twitter for the business and I'm thinking about trying forums. It's a lot of fun connecting with the customers using pictures and contests and such.
Writing
I'm having a hard time fitting that in. I still read several agent/writer/editor/etc. blogs, which makes me feel like a writer, but I have to remind myself that to be a writer I have to actually WRITE!
I have a finished novel that I'm revising (contemporary romance).
I have another one that's about 1/3 written, but I've realized it needs a huge overhaul so I think it's shelved for now (mystery/romance).
I have a great idea for a urban fantasy trilogy or series, and it's barely started, but I get the urge to work on it every time I play the "This is War" CD by 30 Seconds to Mars. (Do any of you have a particular project that's inspired by a particular CD, or am I just weird that way?)
Random
My son had seven teenage boys over to game all night last night for his birthday. The house is still in one piece. My son's friends are relatively quiet overall--I actually slept last night.
I don't blog very often because I can't think of interesting stuff to say.
I think it would be really cool to own an independent bookstore, but I don't think I would ever have the nerve to take the risk.
