Spoiler Alert: Nicolas Cage is the real National Treasure

I've been quite busy over the last couple of weeks. Here is a small sampling of what I've been up to, conveniently separated per topic.

Paul and I started looking at venues last weekend, as I understand that is the most important thing to get done first. After we figure that part out then I hope we'll be able slow down and spread the rest of the tasks out.

Last Saturday we looked at two different venues. The first one was sort of the Disneyland Main Street of Wedding Venues. It was very artificial and really just not us. It was really the best place to start though, since we found out that 1) we're both on the same page and 2) it was nice to see an example of what we don't want.

The next place was beautiful. It's a house that was built in 1910, and has beautiful grounds, a large stain glass window in the ballroom, and a copper topped bar. It's really cool, and we put September 17th on hold while we check out a few more places.

Tomorrow we are going to look at a couple of places in the mountains, I'm really looking forward to our small road trip.

I don't think I've mentioned this here. About a month ago, I joined a local community choir. It's been a blast so far. I really really missed singing, more than I realized until I joined a group with some sheet music in hand and began warming up my voice.

Long time readers (and I mean really long time) may recall that I have a degenerative eye disease called Keratoconus. I have pretty terrible vision that can't be corrected to 20/20.

About a year ago, I started looking into a procedure called Cross-linking, which will help strengthen my corneas and hopefully stop the progression of the disease. The procedure involves some special eye drops and being exposed to a specific type of UV light.

Though this process is about 10 - 12 years old and is used widely in Europe and Canada, it is not an FDA approved procedure here in the States, which means (among other things) that it isn't covered by insurance.

At my eye appointment yesterday I discovered that my eye doctor is authorized to do the procedure. Assuming I can find a way to pay the hefty bill, then I am going to do it. At the very least it will keep my disease from getting worse and prevent a cornea transplant in my future. At best, my vision may improve a bit. And at "So exciting I dare not hope for it" is the possibility that after a year or so, my eyes might be stable enough to open me up to other treatments which may fix my vision once and for all.

For the first time in a while, I have hopes that correcting my vision to 20/20 (even with glasses or contacts) might be in my future. It is very exciting.

After venue hunting tomorrow, Paul and I are meeting some friends for Sushi to celebrate, our birthdays and our engagement. I am so excited for it, I haven't had Sushi in a long time, and it is one of my favorite foods. After dinner we are going to Watch National Treasure. Most people will be making fun of the movie, but it will be the task of one or two people to play devil's advocate and defend it. We did that with the most recent Indiana Jones movie and it was really fun.

I think that's about it for now. I promise to keep wedding stuff behind lj-cuts so uninterested parties can skip it with greater ease.

I hope you are all well and have great weekends.
