I wouldn't have stood outside in the cold among a record crowd for anything, but I was more than happy to watch today's inauguration of Barack Obama in our conference room with some of my co-workers. Most of them voted for "the other guy."
Twelve years ago, I was not at all political. One of my friends from high school, then a classmate in a freshman chemistry class at UC, was distraught that Bill Clinton had been elected to a second term in office. I didn't really understand why; nothing the office of the president did seemed to affect me back then. I was apolitical, not even having a party preference.
Even eight years ago, when George W. Bush was first elected, I had no sense of political climate and nothing against him or the Republican party, like much of the country.
It's amazing how quickly things change.
I'm so very excited to see what the next four days, four months, four years will bring. I think Barack Obama has some terrific ideas, and I'm so impressed at how many people he inspires. I'm so very excited that our new president... has a BLOG
This president will be watched more closely than any in history. There's no way he can win, really. But I have a feeling we're going to see some great things ahead.
