Singing for the governor, a connection, and disappointment

No one should have to get up at 6 am on Sunday morning. Yesterday I did just that, having to make it to Columbus by 9 for a rehearsal. Representatives from all the GALA (and some non-GALA but GLBT-supportive) choruses in Ohio convened in our state capitol to rehearse two songs and perform them at a brunch celebrating the inauguration of our new governor.

The quality of the performance was honestly pretty bad. We were crammed in to a small space, it was very hot, if you COULD pull your music out it was usually very close to your face and/or impossible to see both the music and our conductor at the same time, it was difficult to hear the accompanist, etc. I personally did not perform all that well. But the audience was really appreciative and I'm sure it sounded perfectly fine. It was definitely a tremendous experience singing with the group, even though I'm not sure if the governor stayed long enough to hear us :)

Afterwards, having a few hours before I had to leave back to Cincinnati to make it to a VocalPoint rehearsal, I met up with a guy I've been chatting online with for at most a few weeks - if that long. I just went to his place so he could grab some lunch (I had already eaten) and we could figure out what to do.

Basically he made his lunch and we spent more than two hours just talking, getting to know each other and watching YouTube videos. He's totally cute - the look and the demeanor reminds me a bit of Ethan Embry - and I'm sure that does absolutely nothing for most of you, but I really dug him. He's smart, works in my field so we had lots to chat about, great sense of humor, steady job, terrific attitude about life, all the personality traits that I'm attracted to. I felt a connection with him on a level that I haven't felt with anyone in quite a while. Before I knew it, it was after 3:00 and I had to start the trek back home.

Oh, and he's interviewing this week for (and will probably get) a job in San Francisco. When I learned this last night after coming home from VP, my spirits sank. I'm still a little down about it.
