Promoting CMC, Bettering myself
Yesterday I attended my first networking event as CMC's president. The Bob Allen lunch is a bi-monthly event that gets local arts groups in the same room to talk about what's going on in their respective organizations. It's definitely good for the chorus to have been invited to this, and I can use all the public speaking engagements I can get to become more comfortable. I'm usually pretty good if I've had a chance to rehearse a prepared statement, but speaking off the cuff is not something I can do well. I'm nervous either way, but if I don't have things written down or at least an outline in front of me, I will totally forget to talk about them. Regardless, the luncheon went pretty well and it was nice to meet some of the local arts leaders. Plus I got to sit close to a dreamy but, sadly, heterosexual artistic director that I've admired for some time!
