I spent the morning poring over 20 applications for the new IT position we're creating. A lot of these people are overqualified in the support area and underqualified in the server area, but I found 5 that I'm interested in interviewing. I have to say, though, that reading the resumes sure makes me a little self-conscious.
It does kind of bother me that I don't have any certifications, even though most of these people don't have the college degree that I have. I just haven't been willing to put in the study time (and the exam fees).
I've been giving serious thought to going back to school for my MBA or an MS-IS, just to make myself more marketable if I should decide to leave my current job (or if I'm forced to leave my current job). But do I really want to go back to a life of studying and homework and stress? Not particularly. It's a tough call. I suppose experience should count more than the letters, and I know I would get glowing recommendations, but it's still troubling.
