After an unsuccessful rearrangement of my family room, I traipsed to Aaron and Sean's last night to watch Idol. Is it just me, or were there more "ok" and "bad" performances than good ones? The Annoying Girl who sang "God Bless the Child" was probably my favorite ( Read more... )

I agree with you on the "ok" and "bad" performances as well. The girl who sang "Take A Piece of My Heart" sounded great. I didn't sound like she was trying to be a rocker, it sounded quite country to me. I liked it and the annoying girl's performance as well (she is better when she is more subdued).

However, I will admit that I think the guys are doing a much better job than the ladies this year...

You know, it's wierd... the first time I heard "Take A Piece of My Heart" was by a country singer, so that's my "default sound" for that song.

That being said, I don't think she treated it very well. In Randy's words, "it was just ok for me."

I admit that I'm not much into American Idol (ducks and covers). As for "Take a Piece of my Heart," I will always think of it by Janis Joplin, who didn't have the best voice in the world, I admit, bless her, but I liked the ways she handled it.

... but Faith's version is good too :)

I'd only heard the Janis Joplin version (and Ms Ethridge singing it at the Grammys :-) and believe it is more of a rock song. But, the way she vocalized it made it sound more country and the judges seemed to think she was trying to do rock (thus proving her versatility).

It was okay and probably could have been better though. She did seem a litle uncomfortable with it, too.

Pretty much the whole show this time is sorta 'meh' to me. Much like last year, where the only reason I got into it early on was the eyecandy that was Matt Rogers. This time, my once piece of earcandy is already gone, so I'm already getting slightly bored with things.

Most of the performances were either definitely either okay or bad. Last night I thought the two blond chicks (not including the one who looks like she's always about to fall asleep) were decent, though not wonderful. Everyone else was fairly bland. This week the guys were just as bad...the only one I thought was more than mediocre was Bo.
