Last night Kirsten and I went to see a play that her Italian exchange partner was in. It was at the Puccini Theater or something like that in Piazza Puccini. We took a bus to get there, which was amazing that we found the right bus, then got to the theater and were the only Americans/English speaking people there. But it was a good time. The play was "Rumors" by Neil Simon- totally an English play, but put on entirely in Italian for their use. So the auditorium reminded me so much of high school, it was pretty funny. Kirsten and I just sat there before it started listening to all the Italian being spoken around us. Then the play started and the actors and actresses spoke superfast and it was a little hard to keep up with. It was done using one set, all the action happened in this one room and it was really quite crazy. The sound effects that they used were prerecorded and pretty awful. The doorbell sounded like the phone sounded like the gunshot. Lol. But between Kirsten and I, we managed to figure out what was going on, so I guess I am learning more Italian that I thought. But then after the play we had to find the busstop that would take us home and hope that there were still buses running at almost midnight. We found the stop, then it started this crazy lightning storm complete with rain, which after 20 minutes turned to freezing rain turned to hail... So we stood at the busstop for almost 30 minutes to catch the last bus home at 12:23am. We were all dressed up for the play, so by the time we got on the bus we were frozen and almost frostbitten. But when I got home all the roomies were still up waiting for me to get home, which was nice. It was like coming home to a weird little family... Matthew was sitting on one futon playing his guitar, Andrea was on the other one sewing some photos onto a fabric for photography class, and Jared was on the same futon playing games on his computer. It was pretty picturesque and quaint. heh. So I get home fix hot chocolate and a pbj sandwich and then we all go to bed.
OH! And I went to church yesterday morning! Andrea and I got up and hauled our butts to Santa Maria Novella for Mass, which of course was in Italian...we dont need no stinking English Mass at St. Marks, we're awesome and can translate enough to get the gist of it. So that was good...and quick! Fastest Catholic Mass I have ever been to- only 45 minutes, including Communion...which tastes just like it does at church at home, so atleast something in this country tastes the same as America! Lol. But it was a good experience, not nearly enough singing though and then when we walked out afterwards two Italian ladies were yelling and arguing on the steps of the church. Heh. What a morning.
This is me not wanting to go to Italian class today. ;p
I just want to go to the grocery store, go see Harry Potter, and then go home and be warm and do homework.
Later this week I need to finish up Christmas shopping with the last two gifts I have to get from the Central Market. Then I am DONE WITH CHRISTMAS SHOPPING!!! I managed to do some online things that will be waiting for me to wrap when I get home and then all the other things are travelling home with me in my carry-on.
Talking to Mom on the phone has become almost a daily routine. She calls me pretty much every evening. I think because its so close that we can count down by days, its making us both crazy. I think I will sort of be sad to leave this place and go back to home, but I also miss being home a lot. Not so much home, just the people and family and pets. I was reading this book called "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", which was totally deep and made you think, right, so then at the end they throw in this part about the couple in the book's dog who they find out has cancer and they have to kill it. Of course they cant just say, "they took it to the vet, the end.". NO! It was this whole long drawn out metaphor of the couple's relationship which was only kept together by this dog...who took everything that the woman said and did to be the truth and he trusted her, and then she ends up having her husband who was a doctor give this dog the injection to kill it! I cried for 20 minutes, not a lie. It was the most horrible ending to a book ever and no one should ever read it unless they are heartless and will not be affected by the loving relationship between dog and owner. ARGH! I just wanted to fly home and give Lilu the biggest hug ever and then go out and buy her a brindle Boxer puppy to be friends with.
Well, by next Wednesday I need to write a 10 page paper, so perhaps I should do what I am supposed to be doing in a library and get a book of the shelf and do some freakin research. Later kids!
