Welcome, Yuletide Author!
Thank you for participating this year--I am so excited to see what you create! This will be my fourth Yuletide (you can see my previous Yule letters here:
2011,
2010, and
2009). Everything in my letters is still true--in fact, two of my requests this year are for fandoms I've requested before. I've actually requested Madeleine L'Engle all four years because I love the series so very much and always want to read more about its characters. But fear not! I adore all three of these fandoms and you should feel free to write any story you care about in because I am sure I will love it.
One thing from previous years that I should update is that my bookmarks are now on
Pinboard. I have been very lax about updating them in the last year, but I do still have a
Favorites tag.
Austin & Murry-O'Keefe Families - Madeleine L'Engle [no characters selected]
This series is incredibly close to my heart and includes some of my favorite books of all time. I would dearly love to revisit nearly any of its characters, and I am sure I will adore whatever story you chose to write about them.
I have a prompt if you want it (and more in my previous Yuletide letters): Sandy and Dennys Murray. They appear in Many Waters and A House Like a Lotus but are mostly ignored elsewhere, and I've always wanted to hear more about their lives--what effect their adventures in Many Waters had on them and their relationship with one another, what their college years were like, their partners and how they chose them--whatever strikes you as worth telling.
If Sandy and Dennys don't inspire you, my other favorite characters in the series include Polly O'Keefe, Charles Wallace Murray, Meg Murray-O'Keefe, Calvin O'Keefe, Vicky Austin, Rob Austin, Adam Eddington, and Zachary Gray. I would love to read about any of them, too!
Dangerous Beauty (1998) [Veronica Franco]
This is one of my favorite movies and I would love to read anything in its universe, but maybe especially something about one of Veronica's relationships with a client and/or about how she built up her confidence (that portion of the movie goes by too quickly). I'd love to see her friend Beatrice Venier appear or be mentioned, and if you can work in poetry, political intrigue, or historical context I'd be overjoyed. Smut of any sort is welcome too, but I would prefer you stay away from detailed non-con. I'm not super into Marco, so you can leave him out entirely or include him--but I'd prefer you stayed away from sweeping epics about their true love if you can. The movie for me is about Veronica first and foremost, not their relationship.
Sleepless In Seattle (1993) [Jonah Baldwin, Jessica (Sleepless In Seattle)]
I watched this movie again recently and loved the relationship between Sam's son Jonah and his bff, Jessica. I'd love to read futurefic about their relationship, anything from after the events of the movie through their adult years. Do they stay best friends? Does their relationship take a turn for the romantic? What are Jonah and Jessica like as they grow up? Incidentally, I would like a mention of Sam and Annie (are they still together? What are their lives like? How did they solve the geographic issues?) and of Jessica's parents (were they even mad about her involvement in Jonah's scheme, or just proud?) if you can swing either.
Thank you again, dear author! I hope you have a wonderful time this Yuletide, and I look forward to hearing from you on December 25th!
Love,
Cinco
