Winter Break 2007

This weekend was nuts. Probably spent a good 40-50 hours in the studio with ALAG over the course of 4 days. We laid down soo many tracks. Rob and I are going to make a productivity list and see exactly what all we did because it was a shit ton. It felt awesome. Like we were all professionals who only had a month before their new album had to be written. I mean, not that I'm in the band. But everyone was sitting around jamming, figuring out what song could use what instrument. I played a ridiculously 70s synth part on a song, then a really spacey melodic line on another, then tinny (like the metal) piano on another, then just banged a bunch of keys on another. And laid down group vocals with the entire group. Plus Rob, Josh, and I put together all of our interludes. It's really turning out awesome. I think people will love it and it will put ALAG on the map. IT's going to sound amazing and people will have no idea two kids at college recorded it all. Hopefully.

I was not thrilled, however, with the addition of Andrew into the band, or whatever they're calling that. Just the other day Josh was criticizing people who had three guitars...then they're all gung-ho about getting Andrew in. Don't get me wrong, he is a phenomenal guitarist...you can tell he has a distinct style and he's been playing for a long time. He does not fit their style though. There are really only 2-3 parts out of everything he laid down that I really like. And one of them is just an eerie pick scrape. I felt like he was taking over the show. Probably because I'm jealous that they chose him to be in the band and didn't think of me. The guy who doesn't have any bands and was, at one brief point, actually the first third guitarist in the band...this is starting to not make sense. I jammed with them a few times and had a few lines that Josh reworked on the last album. But then we said it was unnecessary to have 3 guitars. That sounds more depressing than I mean it to.

I'm sitting in the country house bored, like usual. Trying not to spend the entire break wasting my time watching nothing but TV. My mom had a list of chores ready to go for me - typical. I've already finished the book I was reading. I did bring another one I'm halfway through. It's weird, I never read. I've been salivating over Explosions in the Sky a lot though, so I'll probably just play guitar a lot.

We have satellite internet now though, so I may just end up wasting my time on this bitch. Hopefully not.

I might head up to northern VA the day after Christmas. That is likely to happen. Maybe I'll stay at Josh's.
