Wherein Eggsy was too tired for a pre-emptive strike.

Honestly, if Eggsy wasn't so defensive, and so willing to lash out first in order to protect himself, the last chapter could've been so much happier. Like, I had a little draft I would've expanded on if the story had moved in that direction. It did not. But, here's the quick draft of a happy ending.

“Eggsy, we need to talk.” It was, honestly, the perfect chance. Everyone was decided, then, that it was time to break up. Except… he was so tired. He was exhausted from the mission, and exhausted from his emotions and all he wanted to do was go to sleep. They could have this conversation in the morning, surely. He doesn’t say anything, just looks at Merlin and Harry as much as he can through eyes that are refusing to stay open.

“We’ve noticed that you’ve been… distant.” Harry starts, and Eggsy hums his agreement, prying his eyes open to focus on them again.

“We’re worried, lad. You know you can talk to us about anything. We’re here for you.” Eggsy slowly moves his eyes to Merlin, and maybe it’s because he’s so tired, but this doesn’t really sound like a break up speech. At all.

“If you’re unhappy about anything, or have concerns - it doesn’t have to do with our relationship, but with anything, we want to know. We want to be involved.”

“We miss you.” Harry said, simply, and Eggsy’s not quite sure what’s going on with his emotions at the moment, but his chest feels like something’s inflating inside of it.

“I miss you both too.” He says, quiet and sleepy but no less sincere. Harry and Merlin smile at him, and Eggsy smiles back.

“Come, lad, we’ll talk more in the morning. For now, you need sleep.” And they usher him out of the meeting room. Roxy’s waiting for him, for them, and raises an eyebrow at the picture the three of them make - Eggsy in the middle, with Harry and Merlin hovering over him.

“We need to eat something.” She informs them, and leads the way to the closest stocked kitchen, where Harry makes them dinner - Lunch? A meal, anyway, and the look in her eyes as she heads of promises that a talk is in Eggsys future. He doesn’t mind; hopefully by the time he talks to her, everything will be sorted. They haven’t talked yet, but as he strips off for bed, followed shortly by Merlin and Harry, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before things fall into place.
