It's been getting really bad. I knew my cousin's daughter and son-in-law live in Bastrop, some 30 miles SE of Austin, and inquired about them since the fires were out of control almost from the beginning.
They left with both cars, their two dogs, and her medicine (her health has always been frail) with minutes to spare. Their subdivision, called Tahitian Village, was completely destroyed so they've been told. Last night's count was 476 homes. All homes added together tonight for the state are in the area of 700.
Fortunately they have friends in Round Rock, just north of Austin, where he works that have loaned them the second floor of their large home as a place to stay for the duration.
It's hard to imagine all of the loss, including some lives now.
