bosses who insist on swimming next to you on your one day away from them in the week should be banned from the pool. My muscles are killing from my vague attempt to pace him, or at least to keep from falling more than one length behind. I hope none of the old ladies who swim at lunchtime have good enough goggles to see the double-fisted middle

But now I am thinking that the family vs professional issue is what makes things difficult sometimes. There is a problem at the shop that one person is really quite burnt out at the moment (well, in fact, two are, but the other one stays upstairs mostly) and is fairly resentful and stubborn in his work. It really seems when he is away from the shop things run better and more smoothly and more books get sold. And the boss guys know there is a problem, and they want to do something about it. But it becomes very difficult. This is someone who the number one boss spends quite a bit of time with socially, and they are part of the same group of friends. He doesn't seem to know what to do. I keep hoping the difficult one's girlfriend, who he has just started living with, actually convinces him to quit the shop, it would solve things all around. But it is very difficult in the intimate sort of situation we live/work in to deal with the issue straight on, the way it would surely be done in a bigger city/professional environment. Hmmmm...
