Updating on a Sunday evening after getting most of the way through a fairly large gin and tonic - is it a good idea? Discuss.
Hmmm. Can't tell ya what music I'm listening to, cos for once I hain't. WAS listening to a bluegrass compilation cd, of which, I must admit, despite my enjoyment of the genre, E and I were making quite a bit of fun. Not nice, I know, but we were amusing ourselves, and that's what counts. But E has conked out on me, the quitter, and appears to have fallen asleep in her chair. What else can I hear, since there is no music? Well, not Peter's telly for once, that's nice. No, instead it is massive waves. I should have a look really, as they were crashing up pretty impressively a few hours ago, and they sound even louder now...nah, darn, about like it was, no beach houses getting drenched today, then. The wind is pushing it pretty hard though, so it sounds impressive.
Debs and I were going to walk into town today, as the big un is down at his dad's in Cardiff, and the lil un spent the night in town with Siwan and her little boy, Hedd - well, not so little, he's just turned 8, and very proud he is of it, too. Anyway, the little guy, who is now nearly 2 1/2 needed collecting, so we were going to walk in...but the rain was just bucketing it down this morning, so we wimped out and went on the train. Even so, we were pretty soaked by the time we reached the station, in true Borth fashion - only the side of us that was facing the sea, the other half was fairly dry. The rain never falls from above here, it always comes in at an angle, often straight horizontal. We had lunch in town, anyway, and it was great to have time to chat without kids, it's rare these days with me working full-time.
Oh yeah and I cut me hair off after I got home and then dyed it reddish, that was fun. It looks pretty good, too, if I do say so myself. I can see a few less-than-perfect bits, but I did buy some proper haircutting scissors, plus a pair that are good for thinning, you know, the ones with the holes in the blade (so to speak) and I took my time, and well, yes, I am pleased with the result. I would take a picture but then, first I'd have to try to figure out how to post pics, and second, I don't actually have my camera, as I lent it to Mair at the shop so she could take pictures of her football (soccer) team. Ah well, y'all just have to imagine.
And I managed to do my washing, plus the washing-up, and E made a lovely lamb pilau. And some interesting cabbage leek stuff that was quite yummy even if it didn't turn out as she had planned it, and tomato-onion salad and mint youghurt, yum yum and yum once more! All in all, not bad for a day off. Which is good cos it is my only day off, as I wasted my other one on coming back up here from London and Hertfordshire. Actually it wasn't a waste, cos I had a great time with Adeline, and I spent a couple hours in Birmingham, which was nice, but still it means that I needed to maximize today. And my friend Sarah and her little girl Robin who is now four! are visiting family this side of the pond again, and are coming up here for three days this week, yay! For those who don't know, Sarah is a friend from Ithaca days. Her little one is just 3 months older than the child I cared for in Ithaca, so we spent a lot of time together back then, and she is just great. As is Robin. (Jen, if you are reading this still, I'll make sure to get you some pics.)
La di da. Anything else? I unpacked, priced and shelved approximately 31 boxes of books yesterday, and am correspondingly knackered today, not that that is of any great interest to anyone outside of the bookselling world. Typing this is using muscles that would prefer to remain still, but there ya go. Probably just as well that I didn't try to walk into town, really. But hey, the kiddies will be well-blessed with copies of Rivkin and Ryan's Literary Theory anthology this coming term, halleluia.
Erm. Don't think I have anything more to say, I have ground to a halt, am staring at the screen and thinking of finishing off my g&t and heading bedwards. Okay, so it's not ten yet, but it will be by the time I finish reading over this, I'm sure...
