“Because we are alone, that is why we are able to love someone!”
A simple line, a truth long ignored many to their own detriment. Even he had only just learnt and realized it. Yes, that is right. Even when all of his memory had been lost, when his body became part machine and when his mind was stolen from him, he was still able to love. He understood now why he fought and killed the Hydra, why he risked his own life to rescue little Ranka from the Vajra hive and why he did what he did. It was not for orders from the colonel nor was it because it was one of his prerogatives. When he thought himself alone with his thoughts, drifting along the cybernetic network more machine than man, she made him feel more himself. He loved his little sister. That is all that was needed. He saved her once before at the cost of his life and he would do so again.
For a brief moment in time when everybody was joined in the galactic group mind of the Vajra, he finally understood what those words truly mean. Thanks to the destruction of the controlling implant, his body and mind became his own once again and with the defeat of Grace O’Connor, he can finally look towards the future.
Unthinkingly he echoes his sister’s thoughts as he looks on the new planet as they watch that idiot Alto fly joyously in the sky.
“It all starts here from now on.”
